Explore STEM Learning on a College Campus
Through the generosity of Dwight and Dian Diercks, Wingers may seek scholarships to attend summer programs at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). These scholarships are part of Flight Path 2030 and support Red Wing Public Schools’ commitment to helping students prepare for success in computing, data, and artificial intelligence.
The application window for summer 2027 will open in January 2027.
The Experience
Students selected for the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) summer STEM program travel from Red Wing to the Milwaukee School of Engineering in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Transportation to and from MSOE is included.
During the program, students stay in MSOE residence halls and take part in academic and social activities. Adult supervision is provided throughout the experience.
This opportunity gives students the chance to experience learning on a college campus, meet new people, explore STEM interests and imagine what may be possible after high school.
Who is Eligible?
This opportunity is for current high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors with an interest in STEM-related disciplines. No prior experience is required.
Students should have a GPA of 3.5 or above, or request an exception with a teacher or counselor recommendation.
What the Scholarships Cover
Scholarships cover tuition and program fees for selected MSOE summer experiences, including Explore, Focus, and Women in Technology. Meals, entertainment, and housing are included in tuition. The scholarship program also includes a travel stipend to cover round-trip travel.
Some Focus programs, including Business, Nursing, and Health Professions, are not included at this time.
About MSOE
After graduating from Red Wing High School, Dwight Diercks attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering, where he studied computer science. He has shared that MSOE’s small classes and close relationships between students and faculty reminded him of his experience in Red Wing. The Ron Gray Memorial Scholarships create an opportunity for a new generation of Red Wing graduates to pursue their own educational goals at MSOE.
MSOE’s strength in engineering, computing and applied learning also complements Flight Path 2030’s focus on helping students understand and responsibly apply artificial intelligence, data and emerging technologies across many fields.
