Ron Gray Memorial Scholarships at MSOE
Through Flight Path 2030, Red Wing Public Schools students may apply for a Ron Gray Memorial Scholarship to attend the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
One or more students may be selected. Each recipient will receive $2,500 per academic year for up to six years, for a total potential scholarship value of $15,000.
The scholarships are funded by Dwight and Dian Diercks through their support of Flight Path 2030.
Applications Open January 19, 2027
Scholarship Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be a graduating Red Wing High School senior.
- Be admitted to the Milwaukee School of Engineering before applying.
- Have an unweighted cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 at the time of application.
- Plan to enroll full time at MSOE in any major.
To continue receiving the scholarship, recipients must maintain full-time enrollment and remain in good academic standing at MSOE.
Application Timeline
MSOE begins accepting applications for the following academic year on July 1. There is no application fee, and undergraduate admissions are rolling. Students are encouraged to apply early and must be admitted to MSOE before applying for a Ron Gray Memorial Scholarship.
Applications for the Ron Gray Memorial Scholarship will open in January 19, 2027. Note, students are strongly encouraged to attend an MSOE admissions event prior to applying for the scholarship.

Honoring Ron Gray
Ron Gray was a longtime Red Wing educator who taught algebra, calculus, and computer science. He believed deeply in challenging students, supporting their growth and making learning a lifelong pursuit. His teaching influenced generations of students, including Red Wing High School alumnus Dwight Diercks. Ron died on May 10, 2025, shortly before his 90th birthday.
Reflecting on Ron’s influence, Dwight said: “Ron knew how to push me and get me to study just a little bit more. And I like to think that I knew how to push him a little bit, too.”
Ron frequently reminded his students: “Learning never takes a day off.”

About MSOE
After graduating from Red Wing High School, Dwight Diercks attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering, where he studied computer science. He has shared that MSOE’s small classes and close relationships between students and faculty reminded him of his experience in Red Wing. The Ron Gray Memorial Scholarships create an opportunity for a new generation of Red Wing graduates to pursue their own educational goals at MSOE.
MSOE’s strength in engineering, computing and applied learning also complements Flight Path 2030’s focus on helping students understand and responsibly apply artificial intelligence, data and emerging technologies across many fields.
