How RWPS Is Approaching AI
Artificial intelligence is already part of the world students are growing up in. Red Wing Public Schools wants students to understand these tools, use them responsibly, and know when to question what they produce.
AI does not belong in every assignment or every classroom activity. When it is used, students need clear expectations, adult guidance, and opportunities to practice good judgment.
Through Flight Path 2030, Red Wing Public Schools is approaching this work carefully. Teachers remain at the center of learning. Students are still expected to think, create, ask questions, solve problems, and show their own understanding.
What Families Should Know
Families can expect Red Wing Public Schools to approach AI with both curiosity and caution.
Students may learn about AI, use approved tools in guided ways, or talk about how technology is changing different careers and fields. They may also learn when not to use AI and why their own thinking still matters.
Families can ask questions. If a family has concerns about an AI-related assignment, they can contact the teacher or building administrator to better understand the purpose of the assignment and what options may be available.
In April 2026, Red Wing Public Schools shared a family letter about generative AI use in classrooms during the 2025-26 school year. The letter explains Policy 524.1, approved AI use, student disclosure expectations, data privacy reminders, and options for families who prefer an alternative assignment.
